Command Palette — Navigate at the Speed of Thought

The command palette is the fastest way to move around Lifecycle OS. Open it from anywhere in the app, type a few characters, and jump to any work item, board, view, or settings page — no mouse required.

Opening the Command Palette

Platform Shortcut
Mac Cmd+P
Windows / Linux Ctrl+P

Press it from anywhere in the app. The palette opens as an overlay on top of the current page.

Keyboard Navigation

Once the palette is open:

  • Type to search or filter actions
  • Arrow Up / Down — move through results
  • Enter — select the highlighted result
  • Escape — close the palette without selecting anything

You never need to reach for the mouse.

Searching for Work Items

Type any text to search across all work items on all boards you have access to. The search uses fuzzy matching — you don't need to type the exact title or key.

  • Type part of the title: "auth re" finds "Authentication Rewrite"
  • Type the item key: "KEY-245" jumps directly to that item
  • Type a description keyword: partial description text is also matched

Results are ranked by relevance and recency. Recently viewed or edited items surface higher.

Tip: If you know an item's key (e.g., ENG-142), type it directly to jump there instantly. Work item keys appear in the detail panel header and in table view.

Actions by Category

When you haven't typed a search query, the command palette shows a list of actions organized by category. As you type, the list filters to match your query.

A list of all views on the current board. Jump to any view without opening the sidebar. Type a view name to filter.

Tip: Use the command palette to switch views even faster than clicking the sidebar. Open palette → type the view name → Enter. It's two keystrokes if you know the name.

You're working on the R&D board and need to check the Customer Success board. Open the palette, type part of the CS board name, Enter. No navigating the sidebar.

Create a New Story from Anywhere

You're on the Sprints page reviewing capacity and you realize you need to create a new story. Open the palette → type new story → Enter. The creation form opens on top of the current page.

Navigate to Settings Without Losing Your Place

You need to check a field configuration. Open the palette → type board settings → Enter. Settings opens. Navigate back with the browser back button.

Tips for Speed

  • Learn to open the palette by reflex — it replaces sidebar scanning for most navigation
  • For frequent boards, learn to type 2-3 unique characters of the board name
  • Use view names that are short and distinct so they're easy to type in the palette
  • The palette searches are instant — don't hesitate to open it just to look at what's available

Tip: The command palette makes Lifecycle OS feel keyboard-native. If you're a developer or power user who prefers the keyboard, invest 10 minutes learning the palette — it will save hours every week.
